It's no secret that we had been trying. As some of you know, at the end of March we had the unfortunate experience of a miscarriage. It was a very difficult time, but we knew we wanted to move on.
Fast forward to Labor Day (Ha! How fitting?!) I took a pregnancy test. Well, 3 to be exact. Sure enough, they were positive as soon as the pee hit the stick (sorry to be so blunt). That week I made an appointment with my doctor to confirm the pregnancy. They checked my blood to confirm the pregnancy and also to check my progesterone level. In pregnancy, some women's progesterone levels can go up and then take a huge nose dive very quickly. Due to the miscarriage, they wanted to check this. It was in the normal range but low, so they put me on a progesterone supplement. At that time I had also asked about taking baby aspirin. I have heard that baby aspirin can help with blood flow to the baby. They gave me the green light. That week, however, I had a small amount of spotting. They were very concerned considering I had already suffered one miscarriage. They sent me in for an ultrasound. I was only 5 weeks at that point, so there wasn't much to see. However, they saw a gestational sac, yolk sac, and what appeared to be a fetal pole, but they wanted us to come back in 2 weeks to be sure. We were already somewhat relieved. For the first pregnancy, we went in for an ultrasound at 9 weeks and the only thing present was a yolk sac. We felt much more positive this time around. At the next ultrasound, the technician put the wand to my belly and she said "Oh yeah, there's a little gummy bear there." I almost lost it. Those were the best words ever! Then we saw the little heartbeat and my heart melted. I was so happy and in love already. With the measurements they took, the determined my due date to be May 5th. I was measuring 2 days earlier than I had calculated! I knew I could've been a couple of days off on my calculations. It was just nice to hear that everything was right on track.
I was then scheduled for my regular appointments. At the 11 week doctor's visit, we were able to hear the heartbeat. 160 bpm! Everything looked good.
On Monday I have my 15 week appointment. We should get the paperwork to have the gender ultrasound done and can find out soon! We are looking forward to revealing the gender to everyone! We just don't know how we are going to do that, yet.
